The Dolomitenlauf is considered Austria's most important cross-country skiing event and is one of the most traditional and renowned cross-country skiing events worldwide. As a founding member of the international cross-country skiing association Worldloppet, which today unites 20 nations with their most important cross-country skiing events, the Dolomitenlauf occupies a special position. Every year, over 120,000 enthusiastic cross-country skiers take part in the various Worldloppet races – the Dolomitenlauf is one of the fixed points in the international racing calendar.
The event can look back on over 50 years of history and is now held in Obertilliach in Osttirol – an idyllic location on the sunny south side of the wild and romantic Lienz Dolomites. Thanks to its high altitude and perfectly groomed trails, Obertilliach is considered absolutely snow-sure, making the Dolomitenlauf one of the few Worldloppet events that has never had to be cancelled due to lack of snow in recent years.
