Preparations for the Dolomitenlauf 2021 have already started again

Dear Cross-Country Enthusiasts, Esteemed Participants,

we hope that you are doing fine and that your life has come back to normal to some extent! As the preparations for the Dolomitenlauf 2021 have already started again, we would like to give you some information regarding COVID- 19.

Held for the first time in 1970, the Dolomitenlauf is officially set to take place from 21st to 24th January 2021. In spite of Covid 19, it is expected that Osttirol's Dolomitenlauf will be one of the safest open cross-country events this coming year. On the one hand, Osttirol has the lowest infection rates in all of Austria, while on other, the Dolomitenlauf has for many years been a guaranteed event in the Worldloppet calendar.

In the run-up to the event, we have come up with a few ideas in relation to Covid19. Even now we opted for a staging method which corresponds very well to Covid ordinances and which will enable cross-country skiers from near and far to enjoy risk-free participation.

On race days – Saturday, 23rd January and Sunday 24th January 2021 respectively - there will be a mass start at 10.00 a.m., with a maximum of 300 people. After the first block of starters, small group starts will follow in intervals, so there will be no large, concentrated numbers of participants. This means that each participant can head out on the Dolomitenlauf over 42 km or 20 km and also ensures the requisite minimum distancing, preventing lots of participants coming together at the start and finish areas. The feed stations will be spaced out to prevent concentrated numbers of participants gathering there too.

Re-design of the Biathlon Centre in Obertilliach

The Biathlon Centre in Obertilliach will once again be the venue for the Junior Biathlon World Championships from 27th February to 3rd March 2021 and with this in mind, the facilities are to be expanded for the forthcoming winter. This will also fundamentally create more space for participants for registration and in terms of catering. Masks will of course be compulsory in the indoor area.

Free bus shuttle and test point

A free bus shuttle operating throughout Osttirol is provided for all participants and there will sufficient capacity with regard to maintaining minimum distancing. Should there be travel warnings in force for European countries, a testing point will be set up for participants affected, ensuring hassle-free return travel.
