Dolomitenlauf 2021 - Solidarity in times of Covid-19

Dear cross-country skiers from all over the world!

We hope you are all in good health and can cope with the worldwide catastrophic development of COVID – 19 to some extent!

In 1978, the biggest cross-country skiers from 9 nations joined together in the association of "Worldloppet" to promote cross-country skiing in the sense of connecting nations and friendships without borders. Today in 2020, 20 nations already belong to this worldwide community. Who would have thought at that time that 42 years after the foundation of Worldloppet, an indicent like COVID-19 could happen. This global catastrophe is a big challenge for all of us and also affects our community of Worldloppet. Toni Wise from the American Birkebeiner had a clear vision as the founder of Worldloppet, which has come true in the meantime.

When in the past more than 130.000 cross-country skiers from all over the world have met in the round of Worldloppet in sporting fairness and friendship, one of the aims of this association has been fulfilled. But the vision of Toni Wise was also another one. With Worldloppet he also wanted to promote peace and cohesion among the peoples of this earth. Now the time has come to be for each other, to cultivate friendships and to hope for the solidarity of our community in these difficult times.

Despite COVID - 19 - we from the Dolomitenlauf are already preparing for the Dolomitenlauf 2021 with a lot of  joy and great commitment. On 23/24 January 2021 we will be holding the Dolomitenlauf in free and classic style. The Dolomitenlauf in free style over 42/20 km will take place on Saturday , 23 January 2021 in Obertilliach with a slightly easier course profile. As Obertilliach 2021 will also be the venue for the Junior Biathlon World Championships, the infrastructure of the cross-country skiing centre will also be improved enormously for the Dolomitenlauf.  This year the Dolomitenlauf in classic style with the new route and the finish at the main square of Lienz over 42/30 km has been a success and has caused great enthusiasm among the numerous participants from 32 nations. Therefore we are sticking to this concept for 24 January 2021. We are possibly planning to extend the long distance to 50 km. But we will report about this in the near future. As a special prelude to the Dolomitenlauf weekend there will be the legendary Dolomitensprint on Friday, 22 January 2021 at the main square in Lienz.

The registration for the 47th Dolomitenlauf 2021 is open and can be realized now at www.dolomitensport.at.

We would be pleased to welcome you in good health and in large numbers to the next Dolomitenlauf in Osttirol. All the best and hopefully see you soon!
